Manganese alloys on autopilot

The manganese alloy markets were largely subdued in the past week. In the US and Europe, consumption downstream was steady, but spot activity lacked across both regions. In Europe, manganese was limited to a relatively small amount of transactions, with price tags generally falling mid- range for most manganese alloys. In the US, besides some typical foundry business, the spot market remained lackluster – typical of the season.

Global SiMn prices consolidate

Prices for silicomanganese have consolidated across Europe and the US. In Europe, weekly transactions were completed in the range of €810-840 per mt, DDP, while some smaller volumes in Scandinavia and southeastern Europe were transacted slightly higher. Despite additional claims with regard to even lower figures, it is unlikely that the market price in Europe will fluctuate much for the coming weeks as spot business is likely to further curtail.

GAA shifting silicomanganese output

NEW YORK - Georgian American Alloys Inc. (GAA) will switch production at its Georgian Manganese LLC subsidiary to ferromanganese from silicomanganese due to the restart of subsidiary Felman Production LLC.

Felman parent switches Georgia plant to ferromanganese after US silicomanganese restart

With Felman Production resuming silicomanganese output at its West Virginia plant, its Miami-based parent, Georgian American Alloys, is shifting three furnaces at its facility in Georgia in eastern Europe to ferromanganese from silicomanganese starting in August, the company said on July 7.

Felman pens power agreement, restarts

Felman Production reported this past week that it reached a power agreement with Appalachian Power Company and was thus resuming plant operations immediately. The company will begin production with two of three of its furnaces, with ramp up taking place throughout the month of July.
