Felman delays decision on US silicomanganese plant restar

Felman Production is delaying a final decision on the possible restart of its idled 105,000 mt/year silicomanganese plant in New Haven, West Virginia, until regulatory challenges to a favorable April 3 Public Service Commission ruling are resolved, a company spokesman said on May 5.

Local media outlets in New Haven, West Virginia reported this past week that members of the United Steelworkers Local 5171 agreed to contract revisions at Felman Production's silicomanganese smelter. The plant previously ceased production in mid-2013.

Union workers approve Felman contract

Union workers at Felman Production have approved a new collective bargaining agreement with the company, bringing the idled Mason County manufacturer one step closer to restarting operations.

The union vote comes as the state Consumer Advocate Division and an industry advocate group want the state Public Service Commission to reconsider the special power rate plan it recently approved for the company.
