Union workers approve Felman contract

Union workers at Felman Production have approved a new collective bargaining agreement with the company, bringing the idled Mason County manufacturer one step closer to restarting operations.

The union vote comes as the state Consumer Advocate Division and an industry advocate group want the state Public Service Commission to reconsider the special power rate plan it recently approved for the company.

Felman's special power rate in W.Va. draws objections

The commission's consumer advocate division (CAD) claimed in an April 18 filing that "Felman failed to provide reasonable evidence that due to market conditions and financial losses the reopening and continued operation of its New Haven facility is threatened without a special rate."

 US bulk alloys prices may be unsustainable in H2: sources

Firm pricing in US manganese alloys markets may be unsustainable in the second half of the year, according to some market participants, who see supply constraints easing.      

According to some, prices could even come under some form of downward pressure as early as May, although others believe the market may have reached a plateau with nothing fundamentally to push prices either higher or lower.

Union employees at Felman Production's 105,000 mt/year silicomanganese plant in New Haven, West Virginia, have ratified a revised labor agreement, the United Steelworkers union and the company said on April 18.
