SiMn 2014 contract discounts narrow

NEW YORK - Silicomanganese sellers say they have booked 2014 contracts with dramatically improved formula discounts, although those for medium-carbon ferromanganese contracts reportedly have yet to see a similar trend.

Fixed-price silicomanganese contracts are said to have been booked at 53 to 54 cents per pound, with offers upward of 56 cents per pound mostly unsuccessful.

Ferrosilicon anti-dumping determination is delayed

NEW YORK - The U.S. Commerce Department has postponed until March 4 the deadline for preliminary determinations in its anti-dumping investigation on ferrosilicon imports from Russia and Venezuela.

Felman revises special rate proposal

CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- Felman Production executives say a new special power rate proposal offered for the company's New Haven plant more closely mirrors a plan approved last year for aluminum maker Century Aluminum.

The company also feels the alternative plan, drawn up during a state Public Service Commission hearing earlier this month, provides more benefit to consumers than if the company permanently shuttered its Mason County facility.

Redacted information irks PSC

CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- Public Service Commission Chairman Michael Albert got a bit snippy with attorneys at the start of last week's hearing on Felman Production's special power rate proposal.

After calling the hearing to order, Albert went on an extemporaneous rant about the amount of redacted and confidential testimony and exhibits submitted in the case.
