Felman, USW in new labor deal at W.Va facility

NEW YORK - Felman Production LLC has reached a new labor deal with United Steelworkers union Local 5171 at its New Haven, W.Va., silicomanganese plant, it said.

"We are pleased to reach an agreement that allows for important modifications to the current collective bargaining agreement. This necessary development brings Felman another step closer to resuming operations and further strengthens the plant's long-term viability," president and chief executive officer Mordechai Korf said via e-mail.

Lelart, W.Va.-based Felman recently said it would take "several weeks" to restart the New Haven operations after reaching a deal with electricity supplier Appalachian Power Co. Inc. (amm.com, April 7).

The West Virginia Public Service Commission recently extended to April 18 the deadline to file requests to reconsider its order approving a special electricity rate for Felman {amm.com, April 14).
